The antiproton stopping distribution in CPLEAR

Description

Symmetries are important concepts in physical laws and breaking of symmetry principles is of great interest to the high energy particle physics community. In the neutral kaon system the combination of the discrete symmetries known as charge conjugation ($\widehat{C}$) and parity ($\widehat{P}$), represented by the operator $\widehat{CP}$, is broken. At CERN in Geneva at the Low Energy Antiproton Ring (LEAR) an experiment has been set up (CPLEAR) to measure the parameters of CP-breaking, by measuring the intereference of the long and short lived neutral kaon decay states ($K^0_L$ respectively $K^0_S$), using a symmetric $K^0$-$\overline{K^0}$ source.
