Precision measurement of time-dependent charm observables at high-luminosity LHCb

Description

This thesis is focused on developing a new analysis methodology for allowing high-precision measurement of the $y_{CP}$ time-dependent charm observable at LHCb during the upcoming data-taking runs, from Run 3 up to the HL-LHCb era, using $D^0$ two-body decays. As the available statistical precision on the measurement rises, issues as the increased primary vertex multiplicity per bunch crossing and the need of reconstructing the track detection efficiency are addressed in order to reduce their resulting systematic uncertainty that would otherwise overwhelm the statistical one. With a data-driven technique for retrieving such efficiencies being the core of the proposed strategy, the method is validated using both LHCb Monte Carlo simulations and a subsample of real data taken in the 2018 period, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $1\textrm{fb}^{-1}$.
