Prime Minister of Pakistan visits CERN

On Saturday, 23 January 2016, CERN welcomed Mr Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Mr Muhammad Nawaz Sharif arrived at Point 5 in Cessy, where he was welcomed onto French soil by the sous-préfet of Cessy, Stéphane Donnot, and, representing CERN, Director-General Fabiola Gianotti, Directors Eckhard Elsen and Charlotte Warakaulle, and Rüdiger Voss, the adviser for relations with Pakistan. It was the first visit by a head of government of Pakistan since the country became CERN's latest Associate Member State in July 2015.
The Prime Minister then had the opportunity to visit the CMS underground experimental area accompanied by the CMS Spokesperson, Tiziano Camporesi, and the CMS collaboration’s National Contact Physicist for Pakistan, Hafeez Hoorani.
At the end of his visit, the Prime Minister took the time to sign CERN's guest book and to meet with a number of Pakistanis collaborating with CERN.

Le 23 janvier 2016, le CERN a accueilli M. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, premier ministre du Pakistan.
M. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif est arrivé au point 5, à Cessy, où il a été accueilli sur le sol français conjointement par le sous-préfet, M. Stéphane Donnot, et par la Directrice générale, Fabiola Gianotti, accompagnée de deux membres du Directoire, Eckhard Elsen et Charlotte Warakaulle, ainsi que de Rüdiger Voss, conseiller pour les relations avec le Pakistan. Il s’agissait de la première visite d’un chef de gouvernement pakistanais depuis que le pays est devenu État membre associé du CERN, en juillet 2015.
Le Premier ministre a ensuite pu visiter la zone d’expérimentation souterraine de CMS, en compagnie du porte-parole de CMS, Tiziano Camporesi, et du physicien chargé à CMS des contacts avec le Pakistan, Hafeez Hoorani.
Au terme de cette visite, le Premier ministre a bien voulu signer le livre d’or du CERN et rencontrer un certain nombre de Pakistanais travaillant au CERN.
