Description
Shape coexistence is an interesting aspect of the behavior of the atomic nucleus. This phenomenon consists in the presence in the same nuclei, at low excitation energy, and within a very narrow energy range, of two or more states (or bands of states) which: (a) have well defined and distinct properties, and, (b) which can be interpreted in terms of different intrinsic shapes. One of the key signatures for shape coexistence is the presence of 0+ states at low excitation energies. Measuring simultaneously internal conversion electrons and γ-rays provides information on the structure of nuclei that cannot be obtained when measuring either γ-rays or conversion electrons alone. The purpose of the project was to simulate the response and the efficiency of the SPEDE detector and how its copper cooling block may effect the efficiency of the other IDS detectors.
