Description

The ATLAS Open Data project is a collaborative effort to make high energy proton-proton collision data generated at the Large Hadron Collider accessible to all. The collaboration has previously released an 8 TeV dataset with a corresponding analyses framework. The collaboration aims to release a higher energy, more recent 13 TeV data set with corresponding analyses. The purpose of this project is to contribute to the teaching tool. This was done by aiding in updating the framework built for the previous data set and performing analyses of the Z boson, W$^{\pm}$ boson, ZZ diboson, $t$$\bar{t}$ and boosted jet to validate them on the 13 TeV Open Data set. It was discovered that the inclusive Monte Carlo simulations generated with Pythia and Powheg did not model the boosted jet and W$^{\pm}$ analysis well. This was resolved for the boosted jet analysis by re-performing the analysis on slices of Monte Carlo generated with Sherpa.
