Measurement of three-body ppp correlation functions in Pb-Pb collisions with ALICE Run 3

Description

The interactions of Λ hyperons with nucleons are of high interest for the studies of the composition of the inner core of neutron stars, where the appearance of strangeness might be energetically favourable. A precise knowledge of the two- and three-body interactions at small distances is required to define the equation of state at such high densities, but they are not yet well constrained by the existing experimental data. It was recently proven that we can study the strong interaction in three-hadron systems by measuring femtoscopic correlation functions of particles emitted with distances of around 1 fm in high-energy pp collisions at the LHC. Another interesting test-bed for the calculations is Pb-Pb collisions, where the source size is much larger and thus allows to test already available theory in a different system. This report presents the measurement of ppp correlation in Pb-Pb collisions, at √s = 5.36 TeV energy using Run 3 2023 data.
