Description

In this thesis the sensitivity of the CMS detector for hypothetical, heavy, charged vector bosons with one muon in the nal state is investigated at a center of mass energy of √s = 7 TeV. In addition to standard model processes, the decay of an uncharged, hypothetical, heavy vector boson which is postulated along with the signal is considered as an additional background. At rst the selection of high energetic muons is investigated and the uncertainty of the measured transverse momentum is estimated. This study is performed on Monte Carlo Samples so one can use generator information. Selections are performed in order to separate the signal from the background to run a test of hypotheses afterwards by using the CLs method. This yields the minimal values for the integrated luminosity at which the detector becomes sensitive for the heavy, charged vector bosons.
