Next week, take a break from the cafeteria and have a ciné-lunch at the Globe!
How about if, for a change, you forgot your lunch meeting and went to the movies with your colleagues (or that person that you always wanted to ask out) right here on the CERN site?
CERN will be hosting the next CineGlobe International Film Festival from 18 to 23 March in the Globe of Science and Innovation, with the theme "Beyond the Frontier". The 4th annual festival will see 66 short films "inspired by science" in competition, including fiction films as well as documentaries.
From Tuesday 18 to Friday 21, special lunch sessions will take place from 12.30 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. Food will be available for purchase at the “Café Cinéma” tent next to the Globe.
Special evenings:
While the short film screenings are the heart of the festival, each year CineGlobe also organises compelling special events every night, from feature films to special musical performances:
- Tuesday 18 March: The Swiss premiere of the acclaimed documentary film Particle Fever. Presented by BBC Storyville with Fabiola Gianotti and director Mark Levinson in attendance;
- Wednesday 19 March: The result of the “Story Matter” Hackathon, the first-ever international summit to create new media stories with technology and science, an event organised in collaboration with the renowned Tribeca Film Institute in New York;
- Thursday 20 March: A panel of Internet privacy and security experts will discuss the question: how close are we to Orwell’s nightmare in this day and age? The British band Teeth of the Sea will then perform live their original, CineGlobe-commissioned, audio-visual musical interpretation of George Orwell’s 1984, 30 years after the legendary date;
- Friday 21 March: A collection of short films on Mapping Art accompanied by a unique interactive dance performance by CENC with LED installations, presented by the Geneva Mapping Festival;
- All weekend: screenings of short films and a special night on Saturday evening dedicated to the CineGlobe awards ceremony.
The films in competition will be screened at lunchtimes and in the early evenings from Tuesday to Friday and all day at the weekend. Entry to all sessions is free. Note that special nights will require a reservation, via www.cineglobe.ch.
All programmes will be presented in French and English. The full schedule is available on the Festival's website.

Et si, pour une fois, vous profitiez de la pause de midi pour aller voir des films avec vos collègues (ou la personne qui se fera un plaisir de vous accompagner…), ici même, sur le domaine du CERN ?
Le prochain festival cinématographique international CinéGlobe aura lieu au Globe de la science et de l’innovation du CERN, à Meyrin, du 18 au 23 mars. Thème de cette année : « Au-delà des frontières ». En lice pour cette 4e édition, 66 courts métrages inspirés par la science, fictions comme documentaires.
Du mardi 18 au vendredi 21, des projections spéciales auront lieu entre 12h30 et 13h30. Il sera possible d'acheter à manger dans la tente « Café Cinéma » près du Globe.
Soirées spéciales :
Si les projections de courts métrages sont le noyau dur du festival, chaque année, des événements spéciaux ont lieu le soir (projection de longs métrages, performances musicales, etc.) :
- Mardi 18 mars : projection en avant-première en Suisse du film documentaire Particle Fever. Présenté par BBC Storyville, avec la participation de Fabiola Gianotti et Mark Levinson.
- Mercredi 19 mars : résultat du Hackathon « Story Matter », premier atelier international consacré à la production d’histoires ayant pour ingrédients la science et la technologie. Un événement organisé en collaboration avec le célèbre Institut du film de Tribeca (New York).
- Jeudi 20 mars : discussions d'experts sur le thème de la vie privée et de la sécurité sur internet. L’effroyable Big Brother de Georges Orwell est-il parmi nous ? Le groupe britannique Teeth of the Sea interprétera ensuite spécialement pour le CinéGlobe une version audiovisuelle et musicale de 1984, le roman de George Orwell, 30 ans après la mythique date.
- Vendredi 21 mars : série de courts métrages sur le « Mapping Art », avec une performance de danse interactive du Centre d’expression numérique et corporelle (CENC), mise en scène avec des LED et présentée par le Mapping Festival de Genève.
- Tout le week-end : projections de courts métrages et soirée spéciale samedi soir consacrée à la cérémonie de remise des prix du festival CinéGlobe.
Les projections des films en compétition auront lieu entre midi et quatorze heures, ainsi qu’en début de soirée, du mardi au vendredi, et toute la journée le week-end. Entrée gratuite. Pour les soirées spéciales, réservation obligatoire sur www.cineglobe.ch.
Toutes les projections seront sous-titrées en français et en anglais. Les débats auront lieu en français et en anglais. Le programme complet peut être consulté sur le site web du festival.
