Description

This thesis treats about integration and engineering studies performed at CERN in LHCb collaboration during design phase of Upstream Tracker detector. At the beginning of this thesis, CERN laboratory is described. Its mission, accelerator complex and main experiments performed around LHC ring. Next, LHCb experiment is presented with short description of its sub-detectors, designed by international collaboration. Main chapter and its consecutive sub-chapters describe Upstream Tracker detector mechanics and integration with details. Starting from tools using for integration within international collaboration like proper axis systems and definition of envelope. To show complexity of the project, UT detector layout is described. Then detail attention is paid to integration inside detector box. The requirements of the box environment are presented together with explanation how to meet them all. The UT sandwich box material is described with details. Then, C-Frame integration and geometry is presented. To show how UT detector box is supported inside LHCb cavern. Next chapter, treats with details about PEPI volume integration studies. There are subchapters about PEPI mechanics, cabling, electronics and cooling. DCB cooling interface is described and clamps assessment presented. Another chapter, shows cable chain integration. It gives detailed explanation of how many different cable types are hosted inside cable chain. Estimated weight and size of the cable chain is presented. Then, service bays crate (SBC) is described. It hosts low voltage regulator boards (LVR), which are power supply for the detector electronics. Next chapter, describes service bays rack (SBR), which supports 4 service bays crates inside. It must be a robust structure, hence the FEM analysis of rack structure has been performed. Last chapter is divided by two main sub-chapters one of them describes the mock-up and some techniques used for building fake parts. Another one, treats about prototyping tests performed for Upstream Tracker detector crucial parts, like PEPI electronics or staves. There is also information provided what is the difference between mock-up and prototype. In the Appendix to this thesis, there are several production drawings attached, of key elements of the Upstream Tracker detector. All observations made during mock-up and prototypes construction are described in details, in thesis conclusions.
