Description
Strangeness tracking at the ALICE experiment aims for an improved precision on DCAs and momenta at the primary vertex of long lived particles. It uses the information of the directly detected mother particle in addition to the detected charged daughters for the track reconstruction. The former is made possible by the latest upgrade of the ITS. In this project the decay of Ξ− to π− and Λ, followed by the Λ decaying into a π− and a proton was studied. A provided macro was modified for this purpose and its efficiency as well as the effect of applying strangeness tracking was investigated. It could be shown that strangeness tracking leads to a drastic improvement in precision. Furthermore, it was addressed whether the efficiency could possibly be improved in the future and which components of the code are not yet fully understood.
