Description
The doubly charged Higgs boson is a part of the Georgi-Machacek model, which extends the Standard Model to include additional scalar fields in the form of a Higgs triplet and a Higgs quintet. Its double electric charge gives rise to characteristic decay channels, in particular the electroweak decay π» ++ → π +π + with subsequent leptonic final states, which is investigated in this thesis. The process is studied phenomenologically in proton-proton collisions. For this purpose, events are simulated using the Monte Carlo generator Sherpa and subsequently evaluated with a custom-implemented Rivet analysis. The focus is on the analysis of key observables, in particular the dilepton mass πββ, the missing transverse energy (MET), the transverse momentum of the leading lepton πβπ , and the transverse mass ππ .Finally, the simulated distributions are compared with reference data from the ATLAS Physics Modelling Group (PMG) to verify the consistency and validity of the generated events.
