Study of multiple parton interactions in Z+ jets events using an event mixing technique

Description

The study of multiple parton interactions (MPI) is essential for precision measurements at the Large Hadron Collider . This work presents an analysis of double parton scattering (DPS), a key MPI process, using the experimentally clean Z+jets channel. A event-mixing technique is employed to construct a pure sample of synthetic DPS events from collider data, allowing for the isolation of its kinematic properties. Kinematic observables sensitive to the DPS dynamics are defined and their behavior is studied, comparing the data with the mixed sample. We demonstrate the efficacy of the technique in isolating the characteristic signatures of DPS. This report establishes a framework for a future quantitative measurement of the DPS contribution, aimed at providing data to constrain MPI models
