Bau eines Mikrostreifengasdetektors mit Gas Electron Multiplier Folien
Description
In this paper operating principles and results obtained with microstrip gas chambers using gas electron multiplier foils are described. Four chambers were built and tested with quite satisfying results. With the moderate potential of 350 V, one GEM-electrode in the drift region allows to transfer the charge with an amplification factor of about 30, two of these GEM-electrodes (both with 350 V potential) allow an amplification of 1655, which makes it possible to run the detector at relative low voltages with no loss in gain. With the MSGC/Multi-GEM chamber an overall gain of 7.9 . 104 was reached.
