Description

The work presented here is resulting from a fruitful collaboration between three institutes. The work commenced as a quest for conductor material development for superconducting detector magnets between the University of Twente, in particular the Chair for Industrial Applications of Superconductivity and the Experimental Physics department at CERN (European Organisation for Nuclear Research), also representing the ATLAS Collaboration. As the thesis advanced a third player was introduced with interest specifically in the topic of mechanical characterisation of structural materials for superconducting magnets. An involvement of the international ITER organisation (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) resulted in an extended scope of the thesis hereby presented.
