Description
Discourse at CERN is the CERN specific instance of Discourse, an open source Internet forum and mailing list management software application. Developed by the CERN IT department as a service, its objective is to provision discourse instances for the people at CERN, upon request. With currently over 43 instances and more than 25 000 visitors, the number of managed services is expected to grow even more in the coming years. Some of the examples of the discourse instances are CERN Marketplace (https://marketplace.web.cern.ch/), Root forum (https://root-forum.cern.ch/), Geant forum (https://geant4-forum.web.cern.ch), Drupal community (https://drupal-community.web.cern.ch) etc. These communities are created with the aim of linking people on a specific area, so that discussions on the area can happen in an almost new software such as Discourse. Using the Discourse Groups mechanism, it is possible to set posting or viewing permissions on categories as well as group users together and perform several functions in the software. As such Groups are a central feature of Discourse.
