Description

The study of radiation and its effect is of utmost importance in various scientific fields, including particle physics. European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) has been at the forefront of advancing our understanding of the fundamental properties of particles and behaviour of particle beams. As part of this research field, IRRAD facility operates at CERN in order to conduct radiation studies to investigate the effects of radiations on dif- ferent materials and electronic devices. This thesis focuses on the design and development of the front-end electronics which will be part of the beam monitoring system used at the IRRAD facility. The characteristics and functioning of the facility, as well as the operating principle of the beam monitoring sensors used in the experimental areas will be analyzed in order to obtain a series of requirements and specifications useful for the realization of the front-end electronics mentioned above. The aim of this thesis work is to provide a final product that can satisfy all the requirements and that can be easily operated by the facility personnel. In this regard, the whole development process is described in its entirety, in- cluding the design and testing parts, providing a general overview of the functionalities of the product and its performance.
