Error Analysis of Attenuation Length Measurements for the LHCb SciFi Quality Assurance Lab

Authors/Creators

Description

The setup for measuring the attenuation length of scintillating fibres for aging effects was analysed and tested for potential sources of error. It was found that the current method of taking one measurement is inadequate and there is a need for multiple measurements. The setup was also found to have several limitations such as damaging the fibre during measurements, unstable power supply, being prone to errors due to operator and too small current being used in the LEDs.
