Description
The performance of the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) RF system has to be pushed to the limits to achieve the LHC injector upgrade (LIU) goals of higher beam intensities desired in the high luminosity large hadron collider (HL-LHC). To assess the performance, a RF power predictor tool has been developed for the main 200 MHz traveling wave structures for calculations of the required RF power for accelerating different beams in the SPS. Calibration measurements have been carried to fit center frequencies of the cavities as well as obtain a scale factor to match the power predictions to the measurements. Comparisons of the calibrated power predictor with forward power measurements for different beams have been carried out. Further measurements and investigation for obtaining better calibration parameters are still required for better success in comparisons & more confident predictions.
