On 10 December 2013 particle physics took central stage at the Nobel ceremony in Stockholm. Among the invitees were Fabiola Gianotti, former ATLAS spokesperson, Joseph Incandela, CMS Spokesperson, and CERN theorist Luis Alvarez-Gaume. They share their feelings of the memorable day with us.
"It was an honour and a thrill for us to attend such a memorable Nobel prize ceremony and we are very grateful to Peter Higgs for having included us among his invited guests.
The ceremony held some special moments for the LHC. In his speech prior to the award of the Nobel prize to Francois Englert and Peter Higgs by King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, Lars Brink (Chair of the Physics Nobel Prize Committee) stressed the importance of the results from the LHC experiments in 2012 and 2013.
Peter Higgs echoed this in a dinner speech on behalf of himself and François Englert. After remembering Robert Brout and others who made important theoretical contributions, he praised the thirty years of superb work on the machine and experiments that led to the discovery."

"It was great to celebrate the apotheosis of the Standard Model with many friends from CERN and all over the world.
We had the privilege of talking to people like David Gross, Frank Wilczek, Gerard 't Hooft, Carlo Rubbia, Chris Llewelyn-Smith, Lars Brink and many others.
Our favourite laureates, Englert and Higgs, were walking on a cloud. A beautiful ceremony. The Swedish really know how to throw a party. Unforgettable."

Le 10 décembre 2013, la physique des particules s'est retrouvée sur le devant de la scène lors de la cérémonie des Nobel à Stockholm. Fabiola Gianotti, ancienne porte-parole d'ATLAS, Joseph Incandela, porte-parole de CMS, et le théoricien du CERN, Luis Alvarez-Gaume, figuraient parmi les invités. Voici leurs impressions sur cette mémorable journée.
« Cela fut pour nous un grand honneur, et une grande émotion, d’assister à cette mémorable cérémonie desprix Nobel, et nous sommes très reconnaissants à Peter Higgs de nous avoir inclus dans la liste de ses invités.
La cérémonie a réservé quelques moments importants au LHC. Dans le discours qu’il a prononcé avant la remise du prix Nobel à François Englert et Peter Higgs par le roi Charles XVI Gustave de Suède, Lars Brink (président du Comité du prix Nobel de physique) a souligné l’importance des résultats obtenus par les expériences LHC en 2012 et 2013.
Peter Higgs est allé dans le même sens dans le discours qu'il a prononcé pendant le dîner, en son nom et en celui de François Englert. Ayant rappelé le rôle de Robert Brout, et d'autres personnes ayant apporté des contributions théoriques importantes, il a salué les trente ans de travail sur la machine et les expériences qui ont conduit à la découverte. »

« C’était magnifique de célébrer l’apothéose du Modèle standard en compagnie de tant d’amis du CERN et du monde entier.
Nous avons eu le privilège de parler à des gens comme David Gross, Frank Wilczek, Gerard’t Hooft, Carlo Rubbia, Chris Llewelyn-Smith, Lars Brink et bien d’autres.
Nos lauréats préférés, François Englert et Peter Higgs, étaient sur un petit nuage. Une belle cérémonie. Les Suédois savent bien faire les choses. Inoubliable. »
