Description
The STEAM project at CERN aims to achieve specialized, trusted, consistent, repeatable and sustainable software tools and models for rapid Simulation of Transient Effects in Accelerator superconducting Magnet circuits. This thesis intends to develop an analysis function to simulate all circuit families of the LHC superconducting circuit library using the STEAM framework. We develop a four-step strategy for the same. Firstly, existing circuit models are validated. In the next step, models are created for the remaining circuits of every circuit family. Thirdly, the circuit specific models are verified. Finally, the models are improved. This paper summarizes the simulation and analysis method used for LHC library circuits. PSPICE and XYCE software are used to run the simulations. The analysis function developed will help automate the simulations of vastly different circuit families with a single click and in a short time. Such a function helps perform periodic checks on the circuit simulations. It also helps to quickly identify and debug errors when a particular simulation of a transient in a chosen circuit fails to pass sanity checks. Clearly, this study would be useful to the Machine Protection and Electrical Integrity Group for performance assessment.
