Studies on silicon strip detectors for the CMS experiment
Description
The central tracking system of the CMS experiment at the LHC collider is entirely based on silicon strip detectors. These detectors have to be operated in the harsh radiation environment of the LHC. To ensure the operation over a period of ten years, a continuous quality control and the verification of the radiation hardness of the detector modules and its components is required. This work describes the setup of test-stations for the qualification of silicon strip detector modules for the CMS experiment. Furthermore the radiation hardness of silicon strip modules and their readout electronics is studied. The effect of radiation damage and its annealing behavior on important parameters like depletion voltage, leakage current and signal to noise ratio is investigated.
