Description

Testing New RPC Singlet Electronics in ATLAS: To match the harsh working condition in the high luminosity LHC experiment, the current RPC needs to be upgraded. The upgraded front-end electronics will include an analog to digital converter with better amplifier and discriminator. The performance of a prototype of the upgraded electronic will be tested and find out any possible defect. Calorimeter Based Muon Identification Algorithm in ATLAS – CaloMuonScore WP tuning: CaloMuonScore is an algorithm that aims at recovering efficiency in the ATLAS muon detector system, which is an inner detector system and muon spectrometer system. CaloMuonScore identifies muon from background by processing the energy deposits pattern of the particle in calorimeter using convolutional neural network. CaloMuonScore is proven to be outperforming the old identification algorithm, a energy threshold based CaloMuonIDTag. However, the performance of CaloMuonScore need to be investigate closer before using it in analysis. This study will investigate and propose solution to two potential defects of CaloMuonScore. First, the performance of CaloMuonScore is inconsistent in different transverse momentum. Second, the background efficiency shows huge fluctuation at high transverse momentum with unknown reason.
