Qualitätskontrolle der Module für den Neubau des ATLAS-Pixeldetektors
Authors/Creators
Description
The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) operates the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world's most powerful particle accelerator. In the course of the High-Luminosity Upgrades (HL-LHC), the collision rate will increase from the 2030s onwards. which results in a significantly higher radiation exposure in the detectors. The ATLAS Collaboration therefore replaces its previous inner tracking detector with the more radiation-tolerant Inner Tracker (ITk). Its pixel detector consists of modules with 614,400 pixels each. The modules are loaded to carbon-based local support structures. At the time of this work, 20 pre-production modules were loaded to local support cells in Wuppertal.
The aim of this thesis is to investigate the electrical and functional quality of these modules before and after gluing. The focus is on the analysis of the IV curves, the determination of hit efficiencies, the characterisation of noise, and threshold properties determination in several measurement phases. The results after module production are compared to the reception tests at the loading site, and the measurements made with the assembled cell. It is evaluated whether the modules meet the required quality criteria and whether the loading process influences the performance of the modules.
