Separating Signal from Background in D0 → KS0π+π−
Description
The decay of D0 →KS0π+π− provides a unique opportunity for precise measurements of CP violation and mixing in the charm sector. We analyze D0 →KS0π+π− candidates from LHCb run 2 (2016-2017) using the sPlot technique and multivariate analysis (MVA) in order to improve signal significance. After investigating a variety of different MVA algorithms, we conclude that a multilayer perceptron has the best performance in terms of signal significance, but uniform gradient boosting may reduce systematic uncertainties. In this process, we also find the signal and background yields for 2016 and 2017 for future sensitivity studies.
