Dynamic tune measurement methods during slow extraction

Description

The aim of NIMMS (Next Ion Medical Machine Study) at CERN is the development of technologies for the next generation of accelerators for ion therapy of cancer. In particular, the focus is currently on designing a compact Helium Synchrotron. Medical accelerators need slow extraction to deliver the right dose to the patient and, as the extraction techniques alter the beam, it is important to do precise measurements in small windows of time in order to provide a good quality extracted beam. This project was based on betatron tune measurements during slow extraction with the aim of finding the shortest time window required.
