Description
The prospective upgrade of the LHC requires a new concept of readout electronics for the electromagnetic liquid argon calorimeter of the ATLAS experiment. For suppression of electronic noise and luminosity dependent pile up, a digital filter is used. In order to characterize the behaviour of the optimal filtering algorithm in the HL-LHC environment, a simulation of the expected pile up in one cell of the electromagnetic liquid argon calorimeter is presented. Moreover, an implementation of the filter in FPGA technology is investigated to characterize effects of digitization. A possible limitation of the performance of the algorithm is tested with an assumed high rate of charged particles in the calorimeter cell.
