Description

In this thesis a new heavy gauge boson W′ is searched in the muonic decay channel with 3.7 fb−1 of the 2012 CMS data. In order to do that standard model backgrounds such as the W boson are considered. To separate the signal from the background different selection steps are applied. The selection of the number of hit tracker layers is considered more accurately. Furthermore the functions used so far to describe the background are examined and new functions are sought and considered in more detail. Finally a mass limit for the existence of a W′ boson is determined with the Bayesian approach.
