Description

In this study, theoretical predictions of fixed-order (FO) calculations from MCFM are validated using $Z$ and $W$ bosons in leptonic decays. The differential cross section distributions generated by MCFM, a program that calculates parton-level predictions at fixed-order in QCD including resummation terms, are compared with pseudodata of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) and DYTurbo against vector boson transverse momentum $p_{T}^{V}$ and rapidity $Y^{V}$. Our results demonstrate that the calculations from MCFM align well with the pseudodata and the calculations from DYTurbo. The choice of parton distribution functions (PDFs) of the proton results in a few percent effect on the differential cross section distribution. The validated MCFM predictions will then be employed in a reweighting procedure to achieve a precise measurement of the $W$ boson mass.
