Assembly and Test of Gas Electron Multiplier Detectors
Description
This report summarizes my experience as a summer student at CERN, where I contributed to the assembly and quality control of GEM detectors for the CMS experiment. My tasks included hands-on work with detector modules, such as soldering, mounting electronics, installing gas systems, and conducting quality control tests.
Through this experience, I gained valuable insights into how large-scale particle physics experiments ensure the reliability of their detectors. I developed practical skills in electronics assembly, inspection techniques, and systematic testing procedures. Additionally, I came to appreciate the importance of precision, cleanliness, and teamwork in a high-tech research environment. My work directly contributed to the preparation of GEM detectors that will be installed in the CMS,
enhancing muon detection in the forward endcap region.
