Description
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the most powerful and important particle accelerator in the world. In it, protons and ions are accelerated to close to the speed of light, then they collide so that the conditions existing seconds after the Big Bang are recreated. These conditions are visible thanks to detectors such as the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) in the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).
The main objective of this project is the verification of the production processes and refrigeration requirements of the Tracker Barrel of 2S modules of the External Tracker in the CMS particle detector of CERN.To this end, a 1:1 scale mock-up of the refrigeration system has been produced following the same methods that will be used during the actual production of the detector.
The production processes have been successfully verified by means of leak and proof tests, and the refrigeration requirements with the data taken when CO2 circulates through the experimental set in the same operation conditions as in reality.
